Material is excited to announce its forty-sixth exhibition: Barbara Campbell and Christopher Thomas: Painting (covering, hovering, stuck to and pinned)
The exhibition will run for one night only on Friday, July 24, 2009 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Painting (covering, hovering, stuck to and pinned) is a new exhibition of paintings and drawings by Barbara Campbell and Christopher Thomas. Both artists engage painting with informality, speed, curiosity as to the limits/limitlessness of the medium, and a deep interest in the capacity of abstraction to yield the unexpected. Campbell employs a fluid boundary between painting, drawing and collage in making deliberately piecemeal paintings steeped in bright color and juxtaposed materiality. Thomas spans a myriad of styles and approaches in his paintings, using the range of imagery to construct an expansive, heavily annotated vision--with one painting leading logically and/or illogically into the next.
