Medicine Factory is excited to announce two separate video installations, one by West Virginia-based Michael Sherwin and the other by the Houston collaborative Mary Magsamen + Stephan Hillerbrand.

Michael Sherwin currently resides in Morgantown, West Virginia where he teaches and runs the photography program at West Virginia University. The artist creates photographic and video studies using a variety of scientific methods. Sherwin’s work employs controlled observation, repetitive analysis, and typological comparison to draw attention toward the interconnection between science and art. For the Medicine Factory exhibition, the Sherwin has created a twenty-five channel video installation entitled, Relative Positions, using a collection of videos featuring the most recent solar and lunar eclipses. The videos are appropriated from YouTube posts and collaged together into a bedlam of sound and imagery revealing our collective interest in the phenomenon of our universe.

Mary Magsmen & Stephan Hillerbrand live in Houston, Texas where they both teach photography and digital media at the University of Houston. This husband and wife collaborative create video, photography and installation works exploring ideas about relationships through daily interactions with one another. Magsmen & Hillerbrand use everyday items such as coffee, bubblegum and cheese puffs to interact with and build cinematic commentaries. For Medicine Factory, the artists’ will be exhibiting a new video piece entitled Suspect. This video finds the artists in a darkened space with a single glow stick as lighting. The sound is derived from suspense and thriller soundtracks completing both a mysterious and hilarious environment of surveillance.
