Whether Kha captures his characters as they search for this place of tranquility or in fact, he has captured the moment of their arrival, the photographs in this new series, taken in the summer and fall of 2008, catch their subjects in an ephemeral state, illustrated by floating orbs, or ‘auras’ as Kha describes the hazy spherical shapes floating in his picture planes
Five in One (VINI) has taken cues from Kha’s narrative and designed a space around the suite of photographs reminiscent of the transit system stations carried on the titles of Kha’s photographs. The subject of transiency is key to Kha’s understanding of the mental and spiritual state of his subjects and his images depict the characters in varying states of their progress “along the path” to finding their own Shambhala.
Shambhala opens on October 31, 2008 at 5pm. Admission is $2.00.
The following evening, VINI hosts a Shambhala Masquerade Ball closing reception and after party for the Society for Photographic Education (SPE) South Central Regional Conference’s events in Memphis. Doors for the Shambhala Masquerade Ball open at 9pm. Memphis DJ MoSac (funk, r&b, soul) starts at 10pm. Admission is $5 or FREE with a validated ticket from the October 31 opening reception.
Five in One is located at 423 North Watkins, between Overton Park Avenue and North Parkway.
Five in One is an artist run space offering five services in one facility; art, design, events, social club, and consumables.
