For Immediate Release:
Burke’s Book Store and Emily Grace are excited to announce a solo installation exhibition: Kathleen Perniciaro: [elsewhere].

Kathleen Perniciaro: [elsewhere] will run for one night only, Friday, April 24th

The reception for the show will be held at 936 South Cooper Street from 6 - 9 p.m., Friday April 24, 2009.

[elsewhere] will feature the installation work of artist Kathleen Perniciaro. These delicate site-specific installation pieces will be constructed around the bookstore, tucked away in the shelves, leaning against the walls and dangling from the ceiling. Combination sculptures and animated video projections situated around the bookshelves correspond to themes from childhood fairy tales and classic novels. Materials such as cardboard, gumballs, ladders and leaves communicate the nostalgia of lost objects and hidden treasures and illustrate the imaginative texts of several beloved tales. This multimedia event invites you into a richly narrative, enigmatic world available only to those who open the cover and peek inside.

Kathleen Perniciaro was born in St. Louis in 1987. The 22-year old will graduate from Rhodes College in May of 2009 with a BA in Studio Art and a minor in Business Administration. She was featured in the 2009 Senior Thesis Exhibition at Rhodes College. Her work was featured in the two most recent Juried Art Shows, curated by Carissa Hussong in 2009 and Tad Lauritzen Wright in 2008. She was also featured also exhibited at the 2008 Rhodes College V-Week show at Material Art Space. She participated in the exhibition inside the wall in Arezzo, Italy in the summer of 2007. She has also been featured in the Juxtap’art Art Fair. After graduation, she plans to pursue a graduate degree in the fine arts with an emphasis on education.

This exhibition is sponsored by the Center for Outreach and Development of the Arts at Rhodes College.
